    Hunter Volunteer Centre

    Your basic sewing machine skills, or willingness to learn, will be useful in this role sewing wildlife rescue pouches and basket liners. Only straight line sewing, and patterns are cut along straight lines. All equipment is provided. Pouches and liners are sewn to specific sizes and designs and are given to local wildlife carers as needed. Timing is flexible - between 8am and 1pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

You will organise and maintain the Volunteer Library, organise and transport the book trolley, offer books and magazines to consumers, their carers, and families in our Centre and provide general support and/or conversation to involve them in positive connections.

    Enjoy a walk and a chat as you stroll along the shoreline of Ash Island picking up small items of litter. You'll use a grab stick and bag to pick up small items, mostly plastic, to ensure they don't enter waterways threatening wildlife, and help improve the visual appeal of the landscape. At the end of the shift, you'll enter the data into the computer, with help provided if needed, to record types of litter collected. This is part of a Citizen Science project.
