As a HammondCare Biography Writing volunteer in the Upper Hunter Shire, your listening and writing skills will allow HammondCare at Home Clients to record their stories, memories, and messages for loved ones.

Vinnies Vans are outreach services that provide meals and snacks, blankets, toiletries, hot beverages, and, most importantly, companionship and referrals where needed to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and other vulnerable community groups. The Newcastle based Vinnies Van is looking for volunteers to assist in driving the van and assisting with service provision at designated service stops right across the greater Hunter Region.

We're looking for people to help us organise and run fundraising and advocacy events and activities in Newcastle, Maitland and other local areas. We're thinking events like community fundraising BBQs (eg Bunnings), fundraising events (eg music or art nights, walkathons, movie nights) or community forums are the most likely events.

You will be delivering & collecting items and stock (including bulky items) from shops across the region and delivering items to community members in need. You will help raise funds by distributing welfare items across the region to support the housing of the homeless and other vulnerable people. You will work alongside another volunteer and work as part of the wider team reporting to and assisted by our Distribution Centre but operate from a Transport Hub.

Do you have some free time on a Wednesday? Peter is in his 90’s and can’t get out and about anymore. He’d love someone to chat to. Peter worked as an electrician and wood worker and has completed many projects around the family home. We are looking for someone to visit him. Can you help? Just an hour a fortnight could make all the difference.

Older people living with dementia can be some of the most isolated individuals in our community. We are looking for extra generous and patient volunteers to bring cheer to our friends who are living with dementia. Can you help? Just an hour a week could make all the difference.

Volunteer with this Service and provide a support person role for people with cognitive impairment at courthouses, police stations, lawyer’s offices and prisons. Volunteers ensure that criminal justice processes and language are explained clearly and that the client’s wishes and decisions are respected. Your strong communication skills and the ability to relate to and interact well with others will be highly regarded. Basic computer skills are required for this role.

Do something life-changing: volunteer as an ethics teacher in your local school! Primary Ethics teachers help children develop valuable skills for life. We come from all walks of life, from parents and grandparents wanting to be involved in their grand/children’s learning, to passionate community members wanting to make a difference.

Volunteers will provide social support, companionship, listening ear and emotional support to people living with a life limiting illness. This includes emotional support and respite for carers. Companionship and support for a person who has a life limiting illness including those who are at end of life, either at home or in hospital - can visit Nepean Hospital or clients home.

We have heaps of fun, simple and rewarding opportunities to lend a hand for one to two hours on a Saturday morning at parkrun events across Australia. No training is required, roles are fully supported on the day and you can take part as often or as little as you would like. You can volunteer as a marshal, timekeeper, photographer or try your hand at scanning barcodes and handing out tokens…..to name a few of the roles we have available.
