Maitland Community Care Services is a not for profit In-Home Community Care Provider, we have clients living across the Maitland LGA. We require volunteers to provide companionship and social support for our clients who may be aged, living with disability or experience disadvantage. The service provides highly valued social interaction and ensures clients remain connected to community and functional in their own life.

We're looking for people to help us organise and run fundraising and advocacy events and activities in Newcastle, Maitland and other local areas. We're thinking events like community fundraising BBQs (eg Bunnings), fundraising events (eg music or art nights, walkathons, movie nights) or community forums are the most likely events.

We are seeking volunteers to assist with our therapeutic groups & one-off events. Groups include recreational groups (weekly and/or monthly) for young people aged 8-12 years as well as 12-15 years, and one- off family and children’s events & camps. Have fun and use your enthusiasm and energy to engage with participants in recreational activities and group discussions. Be a role model to participants by encouraging manners, social skills & respect. Assist with set up and pack down of activities.

Do you have some free time on a Wednesday? Peter is in his 90’s and can’t get out and about anymore. He’d love someone to chat to. Peter worked as an electrician and wood worker and has completed many projects around the family home. We are looking for someone to visit him. Can you help? Just an hour a fortnight could make all the difference.

Older people living with dementia can be some of the most isolated individuals in our community. We are looking for extra generous and patient volunteers to bring cheer to our friends who are living with dementia. Can you help? Just an hour a week could make all the difference.

Volunteer with this Service and provide a support person role for people with cognitive impairment at courthouses, police stations, lawyer’s offices and prisons. Volunteers ensure that criminal justice processes and language are explained clearly and that the client’s wishes and decisions are respected. Your strong communication skills and the ability to relate to and interact well with others will be highly regarded. Basic computer skills are required for this role.

Jan is in her late 70’s, she wants to stay fit and active but just can’t keep up with the larger social groups anymore. Would you like to meet her at the Hunter Valley Gardens or other local attractions for a walk and coffee and a chat? Jan lives alone and would love some extra company. If you love a chin wag, and a fortnightly walk, this could be the volunteer opportunity for you. Just an hour a fortnight could make all the difference.

We are looking for volunteer visitors to provide friendship and connection to older people living either in their own homes or in Residential Aged Care. Just by being a friendly visitor, you can bring vibrance and joy to an older person in our community. In this role, you will be introduced to an older person who shares similar interests to you. You will visit them weekly or fortnightly at a time that suits you.

Our organisation supports older people who live alone or have few social connections to help improve their well-being. Our programs match those not in regular social contact with people with caring and friendly volunteers.
