Family, relatives and carers visit Cumberland Hospital to attend a NSW Mental Health Act (2007) Hearing. Volunteers support the family when the relative visits the Hospital to attend the Hearing.
Working with the theatre team, you will be with the patient and their family in the waiting area prior to going into the operating theatres. You will then assist in escorting the parent/carer to the operating room and, once their child is asleep, back to the lifts that go to the hospital waiting areas. There is a moderate amount of walking through the theatre corridors; however, there are allocated areas for you to rest between patients.

We are seeking caring, compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to be trained as Carer Support volunteers at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, to assist parents and carers whilst their children are in hospital.

Located behind the short stay unit near the Emergency Department, our Family Room aims to be a sanctuary for families with hospitalised children, just steps away from their child’s bedside. It will feature places to rest, a lounge, laundry facilities, and a kitchenette stocked with meals, snacks, and refreshments, giving families respite so they can recharge and return to the ward stronger for their little ones.
The Hospitality Cart brings a ray of sunshine to families and children in hospital wards by offering body boosters (snacks, drinks, hygiene items like deodorant and toothpaste) and boredom busters (card games, puzzle books, magazines, craft projects, and more!). With the added smiles of our volunteers, we help families recharge, so they feel refreshed and better able to support their child during their hospital stay.
