It usually meets on the third Saturday morning of each month however we have changed this for March and our next date will be March 28. Work is along Mars Creek, a hidden gem of the Lane Cove National Park and involves removing weeds so that native plants will regenerate, improving the biodiversity of the park.

We are well supplied and supported by the Lane Cove National Park bush care coordinator. Come along and help us make this reserve even more beautiful.

Koalas are listed as nationally vulnerable due primarily to the loss and fragmentation of habitat. Small habitat remnants currently support fragmented koala populations, leaving individuals at risk of predation, isolation and displacement. In partnership with NRMA, CVA are planting koala food trees to create and connect koala habitat across the Northern Rivers of NSW. Activities for this project include planting koala food trees and weed control in newly established koala habitat.

CVA is working with Jali LALC in the management of Sea Country to reduce the threats and risks to Aboriginal cultural heritage. The site area covers 6.3 km along Seven Mile Beach Lennox Head and activities include weed control within the dune habitat and debris/rubbish collection along the beachline. Afterwards debris collected is uploaded into Tangaroa Blue app which is a marine debris collection database to collate valuable information about coastal debris.

CVA in collaboration with Ballina Shire Council is conducting bush regeneration work along Alstonville Creek. We aim to improve water quality and restore riparian ecology by controlling invasive weeds, planting native wetland species which will provide much needed habitat for local wildlife. This project is almost complete but there are still opportunities to join us in planting activities.

CVA is working with Ballina Shire Council to improve riparian vegetation and water quality at Prospect Lake, Chickiba Creek and on the banks of North Creek. Improving the riparian vegetation provides bank stabilisation, shading that gives a thermal cover to shield creeks and fish, habitat and food chain support for native species. Activities include weed control, planting and vegetation surveys.

As part of the The Australian Government’s 20 Million Trees Program CVA is partnering with landholders in the Lismore area to restore degraded pasture through revegetation with locally native tubestock. This project is an important part of our Connecting Koala Habitat program which will improve and link koala habitat corridors between local farms. Actives include native plantings, weed control and during drought conditions additional watering of newly establish native plants.
