Going out to see bands, clubbing, or seeing friends is part of everyday life for lots of people. However, if you have a learning disability you may need support to do this. We have found that many people with learning disabilities aren't able to lead full and active social lives because their support workers finish at 10pm. We believe that people with learning disabilities have the right to stay up late and have some fun. Volunteers for the Gig Buddies project catch up with an adult with a learning disability once or twice a month and go to events and do other interesting things together. The Gig Buddies project match volunteers with a participant who has similar interests so they both have a great time going to events. Gig Buddies is based in Sydney and the Central Coast and is an initiative of ACL Disability Services, a registered Not For Profit organisation committed to promoting the rights of people with learning disabilities to live the lifestyle of their choosing.
