PRAIRIEWOOD: Intensive Therapy Program (school holidays)

Our Prairiewood therapy team requires 4th year occupational student (OT) volunteers to support their upcoming Treasure Island CIMT program. CIMT is an intensive 9 day program (45 hours one-on-one therapy) for children with hemiplegia or monoplegia. The program is run by experienced OTs who provide quality therapy techniques to help children build their self-esteem, confidence and develop friendships. NOTE

  • As this is an intensive program for children, we require volunteers to be available for a minimum of one week with the program
  • Attendance to the training session is compulsory for all volunteers
  • We may receive a number of Expressions of Interest for this program, and as such there may not be a role available for all applicants
  • The running of this CIMT program is pending confirmed attendees - we will notify volunteers of any changes as soon as possible.
  • Volunteers will be advised in writing of CPA’s safe operating procedures, and will be required to follow accordingly
  • All CPA sites conduct daily temperature checks and visitors/staff/volunteers must answer series of check-list questions on arrival each day

TRAINING: Friday 25 Sept from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at our Prairiewood site (mandatory) PROGRAM: 9 day program I Monday 28 Sept - Friday 9 October, 2020 (excl. Public Holiday Mon 5 Oct) TIME: 9.00am - 3.00pm each day LOCATION:  Cerebral Palsy Alliance, 224 - 244 Restwell Road, Prairiewood

 VOLUNTEER ROLE 

  • work with children to deliver the CIMT intervention to improve upper-limb function in children with cerebral palsy (CP)
  • support therapists to run play and functional activities designed to improve movement patterns required for daily tasks
  • learn about CIMT and CPA’s unique program, Treasure Island, which combines neuroplasticity principles with play to achieve outcomes.
