Inclusion Melbourne's Leisure Buddies service provides friendship and support to individuals who have a disability, enabling them to have rich and fulfilling lives within their local community.

The young woman you will be supporting is a vibrant person with an engaging and inquisitive personality. She has many and varied interests including mosaics, music, animals, and writing.  She is also described as being sensitive and intuitive. Other/general information about the Leisure Buddy volunteer position is as follows:

  • Your volunteering duties will include going on regular fortnightly outings with your buddy and maintaining regular monthly contact and feedback with your supervisor.
  • No prior experience is required. We will guide you as you settle in to the role.
  • Training and supervision are provided by our team on a regular basis.
  • Inclusion Melbourne has a long history of providing support to adults with an intellectual disability.
  • Although the initial one hour Volunteer Information Session is held at our office in Armadale, your volunteering will take place in or within the proximity of Balwyn as we like to match you with a buddy in reasonable proximity to where you live.
  • The time you spend with your buddy will enrich your buddy's life by reducing loneliness and will enhance your life by you giving back to the community, making a new friend, challenging yourself, and having fun!
  • All applicants must be over 18 years of age and applicants must be able to provide a minimum 12 month commitment.
  • Ongoing, long term commitment beyond 12 months is preferred and encouraged as this helps provide continuity for the Leisure Buddies.
  • All applicants attend a one-to-one interview with a member of our friendly team.
  • A Police Check, a Disability Workers Exclusion Scheme check, and phone calls to 2 professional referees will be conducted by Inclusion Melbourne.
  • An International Police Check or Statutory Declaration is required for applicants who have resided overseas for 12 months or more in the last 10 years
