About the program
The Asylum Seeker Welcome Centre (ASWC) works with the most vulnerable asylum seekers living lawfully in the community while they await the outcome of their claims for protection. The ASWC provides community meals, foodbank, English classes, a gardening program, computer classes, music group, employment services, and brief interventions in addition to a host of seasonal programs. In working collectively with volunteers, we aim to ensure that the people we support feel safe and have as many opportunities for health, happiness and success as possible. The English program for people seeking asylum aims to build proficiency in the English language, one of the most fundamental needs of this group and the gateway to the Australian community.
