The Board of Playgroup Queensland (PGQ) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join the Board as non-executive Directors. The applicants ideally will have experience in the areas of law and government advocacy.  Other skills highly considered would include networking, advocacy, community service, fundraising and sponsorship. The appointment of a Director is for a three-year term.  The successful applicant would be appointed at our Annual General Meeting, to be held in November 2019.

All PGQ Directors are individually responsible to ensure that the Board fulfils its role as set out above and in the Board Charter, and comply with their legal duties and obligations as Directors.

Directors are expected to attend all Board meetings. Currently, the Board meets 6weekly through the year on a Tuesday night from 6 pm for approximately three hours. Meetings take place at PGQ's Corporate office in Enoggera.

In addition, directors are expected to:·

  • Contribute to the work of Board committees as required;
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions (1 day per year);
  • Perform other representative functions; and
  • Attend training/professional development activities.

It is essential that all Directors are committed to the work of PGQ and its strategic direction, and can work collaboratively with other Directors.

The successful candidate must also be able to meet the following criteria:·

  • Skills and experience in law, government advocacy, network, community service, fundraising, sponsorship or another relevant area.
  • A relevant qualification in one of the areas listed above and a minimum of five years experience in a professional role.
  • A genuine interest in the work of PGQ.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance systems and frameworks, including in the areas of financial governance, compliance and risk management, or the capacity and willingness to gain such knowledge.
  • An ability to work effectively within a not-for-profit, member-based context including liaising with, and gaining the trust and respect of, members and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • You will be required to hold and maintain a current Queensland Blue Card (Working with Children Check) for the duration of their directorship, so must be eligible to obtain a Blue Card

Additional considerations for potential candidates include:

  • Experience at Board level either through reporting to, and/or sitting on Boards is not essential but advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements and management reports.
