About The ASRC

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement. We are an independent not for profit, whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social wellbeing. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia. We are proud to be owned and run by our community of volunteers and supporters.

The ASRC employs over 100 staff and depends on 1000 dedicated volunteers to carry out programs that support and empower over 4,000 people seeking asylum each year.

About the Role

Our handypeople are skilled in a wide range of repairs and keep our facilities in good condition by undertaking various odd jobs and performing maintenance and light repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing maintenance and light repairs.
  • Painting and filling gaps (in walls).
  • Repairing equipment.
  • Undertake light installation or carpentry.
  • Attending to basic plumbing issues (for example, a blocked sink).
  • Undertake duties as assigned or emergency tasks.
  • Responding to maintenance related OH&S issues.
  • Identifying and reporting the need for major repairs.
  • Taking the Centre's fleet of cars to be serviced.

What we’re looking for

  • Previous experience or skills in repairs/maintenance or a trade.
  • Experience using a range of tools.
  • Resourceful and self-motivated.
  • A hands-on approach to dealing with issues.
  • Keen eye for detail and physical stamina are valued greatly.
  • Demonstrated ability to use own initiative and 'common sense'.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as effectively as part of a team.
  • Full Victorian drivers licence.
  • Home access to the internet and email.
