Position Purpose

Service Design & Support Volunteers help strengthen ASRC services by contributing to projects that improve the experience of people seeking asylum. The role supports work that makes ASRC services easier to navigate and more responsive. Tasks may include research, organising information, developing simple guides and resources. This work helps staff and clients access accurate, accessible information at the right time.

The ASRC Community Portfolio within the Program, Quality and Impact Team supports people seeking asylum by providing accessible, community‑centred services that promote safety, wellbeing and empowerment. The program works alongside members to strengthen resilience, build connection and ensure people have the support they need while navigating complex systems.

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia's largest independent organization providing aid, employment, health services and advocacy for people seeking asylum. Powered by over 500 volunteers and 200 staff, we create welcoming and inclusive environments. Our organisational values are Welcoming, Authentic, Courageous and Collaborative.

Key Responsibilities

● Supporting service design and continuous improvement projects across service areas

● Conducting research and compiling information for planning and innovation

● Assisting with client‑facing and staff‑facing resources including guides, information packs, educational materials and digital content

● Supporting referral pathway mapping and communication of service systems

● Assisting with stakeholder engagement and coordination with internal and external partners

● Contributing to accessible and culturally safe resources, including coordinating translations

● Supporting implementation activities for new processes or service initiatives

● Providing administrative support for service design and innovation projects

● Assisting with scheduling and preparation for meetings, workshops and consultations

● Organising and tracking project materials and feedback

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

● Experience in, studying, or holding qualifications in Human‑Centred Design, Community Services, Social Research, Project Management, Psychology, Public Health, Communications, Business Development or related fields

● Strong organisational and coordination skills

● High attention to detail and accuracy in administrative and data tasks

● Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

● Strong written communication skills

● Ability to engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders

● Commitment to social justice, equity, cultural sensitivity and inclusion

● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Canva

Desirable:

● Experience in service design, community engagement, resource development, research, project support, administration or data entry

● Experience in basic graphic design or digital content creation

● Prior experience in a similar volunteer or professional role

● Lived experience as a person seeking asylum, or from a refugee background

● Knowledge of the policy context of practice with asylum seekers visa categories/conditions, and the barriers faced by people seeking asylum in Australia
