Data Analyst Volunteer

Position Purpose
The purpose of the data analyst volunteer is to support the ASRC Community Portfolio by improving the accessibility, organisation and usability of program data and reporting processes. The role contributes to more efficient ways of working by helping teams manage and interpret information in clear and practical formats. Through collaborative and responsive support, this position assists staff to better understand data and strengthen day-to-day program operations.

The ASRC Community Portfolio within the Program, Quality and Impact Team supports people seeking asylum by providing accessible, community‑centred services that promote safety, wellbeing and empowerment. The program works alongside members to strengthen resilience, build connection and ensure people have the support they need while navigating complex systems.

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia's largest independent organization providing aid, employment, health services and advocacy for people seeking asylum. Key Responsibilities
● Build and maintain dashboards in Google Sheets that allow staff to filter and explore data by date or financial year
● Create data pipelines connecting source data (CSV exports, existing spreadsheets) to structured reporting outputs
● Automate manual, recurring data tasks such as database comparisons and cross-sheet lookups
● Build tools that allow teams to upload data and automatically generate summaries
● Support other teams with ad hoc data needs
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
● Strong Google Sheets skills, including complex formulas
● An understanding of data structures and how to work with them
● Ability to work independently and communicate progress
Desirable:
● Coding experience would be helpful, but not required
● Prior experience in a similar role
● Lived experience as a person seeking asylum, or from a refugee background
● Knowledge of the policy context of practice with asylum seekers visa categories/conditions, and the barriers faced by people seeking asylum in Australia
