Volunteer Research Co-Coordinator

Darling Downs Environment Council

Established in 2014, the Darling Downs Environmental Council works collaboratively to advocate for the protection of nature and the advancement of sustainability outcomes. DDEC conducts a wide-range of research, spanning topics from conservation and energy to public policy. The Research Co-Coordinator will build our capacity to advocate for evidence-based informed solutions to environmental concerns. The role involves identifying research opportunities, overseeing research projects and ensuring that the research outcomes support our mission to save what is left of this region's precious natural places and support viable alternatives to unsustainable industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Coordinator to identify research opportunities and resources.
  • Establish and build relationships with the academic community and experts on subjects relevant to local environmental issues.
  • Coordinate development of clear, persuasive research proposals.
  • Maintain records of proposal submissions and feedback.
  • Induct and manage volunteer researchers and monitor progress to ensure required outcomes.
    • This includes checking in on capacity, helping to clarify confusion around project scope and roles, sensitively providing feedback to volunteers about team cooperation, work quality and other areas as needed, reminding team members about meeting times, seeking and receiving feedback about improving systems and processes
  • Regularly report on research progress.
  • Draft research summaries, reports, and presentations that can be used to support our environmental campaigns.

Required skills:

  • Strong writing and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in coordinating projects or managing teams.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues or related fields.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience in research or data analysis is a plus but not required

Time Commitment:

Minimum 5-10 hours per week (flexible depending on projects) Duration: 6-12 months (with possibility of extension)
