Key Duties of a Palliative Care Volunteer Providing Companionship – Engage in conversations, offer a listening ear, or simply sit with patients for comfort.

Offering Emotional Support – Support patients and their families through presence, reassurance, and empathy.

Assisting with Non-Medical Needs – Help with small tasks such as reading to patients, writing letters, or providing hand massages.

Supporting Families & Caregivers – Offer respite by keeping patients company while caregivers take a break.

Creating a Calming Presence – Maintain a peaceful, respectful, and comforting environment.

Observing & Reporting – Share any relevant observations with healthcare staff while maintaining confidentiality.

Essential Skills & Qualities Compassion & Empathy – A caring nature and the ability to connect with others in distress.

Active Listening – Attentiveness to the needs and emotions of patients and families.

Emotional Resilience – The ability to cope with end-of-life situations and maintain professionalism.
