Volunteer Chief Financial Officer

Women 4 STEM

The CFO will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of Women4STEM, supporting the organisation’s strategic goals, and providing key financial insights to the Board, CEO and Executives. This position will involve overseeing finance, ensuring compliance with regulations, monthly financial reports and budgeting. The role has one part time bookkeeper reporting into it. The CFO will also provide support to the program leads, ensuring financial alignment with Women4STEM’s mission to promote gender equity in STEM fields. We are looking for an experienced professional to oversee the financial operation of the organisation. Provide financial insight to the board, CEO and Program leads while being passionate about advancing gender equality in STEM and committed to the mission of Women4STEM. THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Financial Management •Budget Development & Oversight: Develop, monitor, and manage organizational and program-specific budgets in alignment with strategic goals. Ensure financial efficiency and sustainability. •Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly and annual audited financial reports for the CEO and Board, ensuring clarity and transparency in financial status and performance. •Cash Flow & Liquidity: Monitor cash flow and liquidity, providing recommendations for financial planning and risk mitigation. •Financial Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, tax filings, and audits, working closely with external auditors when necessary. •Grants & Funding: Assist in preparing financial reports and forecasts for grants, funding proposals, and partnership agreements. •Risk 2. Board Support •Financial Insight: Provide the board with financial insight, ensuring the board is informed and understand the financial situation of the organisation. •Governance Support: Provide advice and assistance to the Board on governance matters, financial decision-making, and long-term strategic planning.   3. Support to Program Leads •Financial Planning for Programs: Support the CEO and program leads in developing and managing program budgets. Provide insights into cost management and financial tracking to ensure programs operate within budget. •Reporting & Analysis: Assist program leads in financial reporting, tracking key performance indicators, and analysing program expenditures. •Cost Efficiency: Help identify opportunities for cost reduction and financial efficiency within programs. 4. Strategic Planning and Decision Support •Financial Analysis & Insights: Provide the CEO and senior leadership with regular financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and long-term planning. •Ad-hoc Financial Projects: Assist with special financial projects as directed by the CEO, including preparing forecasts, scenario analyses, and risk assess. 5. Grants Application & Management •Grant Writing & Reporting: Lead the preparation of financial components of grant applications, ensuring alignment with organisational goals. Prepare financial reports for existing grants, ensuring compliance with funders' requirements. •Grant Budgeting: Develop detailed budgets for grant proposals, ensuring all financial aspects are accurately represented and aligned with the project scope. •Grant Management: Track and report on grant expenditures, working closely with program leads to ensure all funds are appropriately allocated and spent in accordance with grant agreements. •Grant Compliance & Auditing: Ensure compliance with grant reporting timelines and guidelines. Coordinate with external auditors and funders to ensure proper documentation and transparency. 6. Other Duties as Assigned •Perform other related tasks as required by the CEO, senior leadership team, or Board.

KEY CAPABILITIES NEEDED FOR SUCCESS • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting, accounting, and reporting practices. • Commercial Acumen: Foster commercial acumen in the organisation.

Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate financial data in an accessible manner to non finance people.

• Leadership & Collaboration: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, fostering a collaborative environment with program leads, the CEO, and Board members.

• Grant Management Expertise: Proven experience in preparing and managing grant applications, ensuring compliance with funders' financial requirements, and preparing financial reports for grants. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) are a plus.

• Experience: • 5+ years of experience in financial management, accounting, or related fields. • Experience in board support and corporate governance is highly desirable.
