Are you passionate about medical and population health research?

The Busselton Population Medical Research Institute (BPMRI) is a not-for-profit entity that manages the long-running, internationally recognised Busselton Health Study (BHS). Since 1966 the BHS has collected detailed health data and biospecimens from over 20,000 participants living in the City of Busselton for medical research purposes. With research facilities in Perth and a survey facility in Busselton the BPMRI engages with the local Busselton community, study participants, collaborating researchers, higher degree students and stakeholders from university, health services and government sectors who rely on the data for medical research projects that improve health outcomes and guide health policy.

BPMRI is currently seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our Board in a voluntary capacity and who share our vision in advancing medical research and population health and will help implement and deliver the Institute’s strategic goals for 2025-2029.

We are looking for Board members who will bring their experience and expertise to help guide our not-for-profit organisation towards sustainability and excellence in medical research.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance.

  • Collaborate with fellow board members to develop and oversee BPMRI’s strategic plan and monitor key milestones.

  • Actively participate in board meetings and sub-committees. BPMRI’s Board members are located both in Busselton and Perth and meet on a monthly basis (last Wednesday of each month from 4 pm to 5.30 pm) using MS Teams.

  • Advocate for the BPMRI’s mission and initiatives within your network.

  • Support fundraising efforts and community engagement activities to contribute to the promotion of and long-term sustainability of the BPMRI.

Qualifications The ideal candidates will have experience and qualifications in at least one of the following areas:

  • Legal/IP.
  • Marketing/Fundraising/Communications.
  • Governance, risk, and compliance.
  • Strategy and planning.
  • Government policy and relations.
  • Business and commercial development.
  • Knowledge of health/university sectors.

Key attributes

  • Strong understanding of not-for-profit governance and operations.

  • Passion for advancing health research and improving community health outcomes.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to contribute time and expertise to the BPMRI.
