About Chatloop
Chatloop is an Australian charity that helps people with refugee backgrounds to learn English. Our goal is to see all humanitarian migrants to living happy lives in Australia, where English proficiency is crucial to economic and social integration. Chatloop is based in Sydney, and was founded in September 2020.
What We Do
The way we help people learn English is unique and innovative, not to mention scalable. We have our own mobile app - also called Chatloop - which is a messaging app like WhatsApp but designed for learning languages. In this app, we connect refugees to volunteer conversation partners. In pairs, they work through a structured communication practice activity, sending just a few messages a day. These activities usually last for a week or so, and when an activity finishes, the learner is paired with another conversation partner for another activity. This gives the learner a daily drip feed of communication practice.
To achieve this, we spend a lot of time recruiting and training volunteers, establishing and maintaining partnerships with other organisations in the settlement services industry, and supervising the activities on the app.
Become A Director
Chatloop needs to add experience and know-how to our Board of Directors. We are looking for a Director who has financial literacy and accounting/ bookkeeping skills to assist with the management of the finances of the charity. Executive or board-level experience, and experience in the settlement services sector and/or lived refugee experience will be highly regarded.
This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new and innovative organisation and help steer it as it grows. Chatloop has the potential to be helping thousands of people, on a daily basis, all across Australia, so it is going to be an exciting journey ahead.
