NFP Lawyer - Volunteer

VIC ICT for Women

Role Overview: As a Non-Profit Lawyer, your primary responsibility is to provide legal counsel and support to our not-for-profit organisation. Your role encompasses a broad spectrum of legal tasks, including but not limited to, advising on governance matters, drafting and reviewing contracts and supporting the VIC ICT Board in relation to legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:

Offer expert legal guidance on various matters such as governance, compliance, risk management, and strategic planning.

Assist with the establishment and maintenance of governance structures, policies, and procedures in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements for our organisation.

Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents relevant to the operations of the organisation including vendor agreements, service contracts, leases, and partnerships.

Advise on fundraising activities, including compliance with charitable solicitation laws and regulations. Assist with grant applications, compliance, and reporting requirements.

Provide guidance on employment matters, including hiring practices, employee relations, wage and hour laws, and compliance with employment regulations.

Advise on intellectual property matters, including trademarks, copyrights, and licensing agreements, to protect the organisation's assets and ensure compliance with intellectual property laws.

Represent our organisation in legal disputes, negotiations, and litigation proceedings, working to resolve conflicts effectively and protect the organization's interests.

Qualifications:

Relevant degree from an accredited law school. Proven experience in non-profit law, either through previous employment, internships, or specialized coursework. Knowledge of non-profit governance and regulatory requirements. Strong understanding of contract law, employment law, intellectual property law, and other relevant legal areas. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly and effectively. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including board members, staff, volunteers, and external partners.
