Volunteer Crisis Supporter - Northern NSW As a Crisis Supporter you will take calls and use the Care framework to provide short term crisis support to people who are experiencing a crisis. No prior experience is necessary to volunteer as Lifeline Northern Rivers will provide all the specialised training you will need in the role. Attributes • Good listening skills • Empathy, compassion & commitment • A desire to make a positive difference. • Basic computer skills with access to the internet Training Lifeline’s Crisis Supporter Workplace Training (CSWT) has been created to equip volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to undertake the Crisis Supporter role. The training is divided into three stages. The first stage of training will provide you with the initial skills and knowledge required in the role and will include an observation shift. (3 months) The second stage focuses on placement where you will be supervised during shifts. (1 month) The third stage is a combination of self-paced learning and undertaking crisis support without direct supervision. (6-9 months) By undertaking the CSWT program, you will not only be trained as a Lifeline Crisis Support Worker, but you will obtain a nationally recognised qualification for the CHCSS00113 Crisis Support Skillset upon completing the required assessments successfully and achieving competency for each of the following units: • CHCCCS003 Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide • CHCCCS019 Recognise and respond to crisis situations • CHCCCS028 Provide client-centred support to people in crisis Volunteers are expected to actively engage in the training process to ensure they develop the skills and knowledge to deliver crisis support services to help seekers in need. It is a requirement that volunteers contribute towards training costs Other Requirements A Police Check and Working With Children Check are required for the role, these must be covered at your own cost.
