Website and IT Volunteer

Darling Downs Environment Council

The Darling Downs Environment Council (DDEC) is the peak environment council for the Darling Downs, Southern Downs, Western Downs and Lockyer Valley regions. Established in 2014 it represents and supports local democratic grass roots environmental protection and conservation groups. DDEC is the regional branch of the Queensland Conservation Council, the state’s peak environmental body and is largely funded through a grant administered by the Department of Environment and Science (DES) and by the Queensland Conservation Council.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Website Maintenance: Regularly update and maintain the organization's website, ensuring content is accurate, up-to-date, and user-friendly.

Content Management: Create and upload new content, including articles, blog posts, event announcements, and multimedia resources.

Design and Layout: Collaborate with team members to develop and implement website design changes or enhancements to improve user experience and engagement.

Technical Support: Provide technical support to staff and volunteers on website-related issues, troubleshooting problems and offering solutions as needed.

SEO Optimization: Implement search engine optimization (SEO) strategies to improve the organization's online visibility and attract more visitors to the website.

Security and Backup: Ensure the security of the website by implementing necessary security measures and regularly backing up data to prevent loss or damage.

Integration with Other Platforms: Integrate the website with other digital platforms and tools, such as social media channels, email marketing software, and donation platforms.

IT Systems Management: Assist with the management and maintenance of IT systems, including hardware, software, and network infrastructure.

Training and Documentation: Provide training to staff and volunteers on website management best practices and maintain documentation for reference.

Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in web development and IT, proposing innovative ideas for improving digital platforms.

Skills and Qualifications:

Proficiency in website development and content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Joomla). Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web programming languages. Experience with graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator) is a plus. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
