Volunteer Support Coordinator

Darling Downs Environment Council

Volunteer Support Role – Position Description Darling Downs Environment Council (DDEC)

The Darling Downs Environment Council (DDEC) is a community-led group supporting local environmental and conservation action across the Darling Downs, Southern Downs, Western Downs, and Lockyer Valley. We work alongside grassroots groups to protect our natural places and wildlife and are proudly the regional branch of the Queensland Conservation Council.

We’re looking for friendly, organised people who can help us support our growing team of volunteers. You don’t need to be an expert—we’ll provide support and you’ll learn as you go.

🌱 What You’ll Be Doing Helping with Volunteer Sign-ups and Welcomes:

Chatting to people who want to get involved and helping them feel welcome

Keeping simple records of who’s joined and what they’re interested in

Supporting Volunteer Activities:

Helping volunteers understand how they can contribute

Sharing updates and checking in to see how people are going

Organising occasional meet-ups or catch-ups

Keeping the Volunteer Community Engaged:

Helping plan simple thank-you gestures or social events

Sharing ideas and feedback from volunteers with the wider DDEC team

Working with the Team:

Linking up with other volunteers and staff to make sure everyone’s on the same page

Helping new volunteers connect with the right projects or campaigns

✨ You’d Be Great For This If You: Enjoy chatting with people and making them feel welcome

Are organised and like keeping track of simple lists or tasks

Can work with others and follow up when needed

Care about the environment and want to be part of a community making a difference

You don’t need formal experience—just a willingness to learn and a few hours each week to offer. We’ll support you along the way.

🌿 What You’ll Get Out of It: Be part of a passionate local community

Learn more about environmental work and community organising

Develop your skills in communication, coordination, and leadership

Know you’re helping make a real difference in your region

🙌 How This Role Helps: Your support helps us make sure every volunteer feels welcome, supported, and confident to take action. Volunteers are the heart of DDEC, and with your help, we can grow a stronger and more connected movement for nature in our region.
