Community Coach for Youth Leadership Program (Cumberland/Auburn/Lidcombe)

Educar Foundation / Max Potential

Max Potential is an innovative youth leadership development program that has been running since 2003. As one of Australia’s longest-running youth development programs, Max Potential connects high school students with local community and business leaders who are trained as coaches. Over 22 weeks, participants engage in one-on-one coaching, experiential workshops and delivering a community service project that takes an entrepreneurial approach to meeting needs in their local community.

The Max Potential program is a powerful two-fold approach that focusses on youth leadership coaching, and training community coaches to empower young leaders and a build a stronger community. Young adults are equipped with the knowledge, skills and tools they need to become confident and impactful leaders in their communities and beyond, enabling them to aspire to great heights. Community coaches acquire coaching skills that not only benefit the youth but are transferrable to various aspects of the coaches’ personal and professional lives.

As a community coach you will be required to:

  • Attend one in-person coach training day and one training day online (spread over the program)
  • Attend one introduction workshop day in person where you will meet your young adult
  • Attend two connect groups and participate in workshops activities and discussions (in-person and online)
  • Carry out at least 8 one-on-one coaching sessions with our young adult (a combination of in-person and online)
  • Attend 3 online coaching sessions with your professional coach
  • Attend a final graduation celebration event (in-person)

Volunteering as a community coach is a rewarding opportunity that makes a positive difference but also gives you a coaching skillset that you can use in your personal and professional life. You will develop your active listening and communication skills and learn how to ask open-ended powerful questions to empower your young adult to reach their goals.

No experience is necessary and training will be provided however, it will be necessary to build rapport as you connect and coach your young adult. We require motivation and an open mind to learn and adopt the GROW coaching framework and MAXI leadership principles taught within the program. You will be required to maintain a professional and ethical conduct at all times.
