Applications are sought from appropriate persons for one Elected Board Member vacancy on the Board of Healthy Cities Illawarra (HCI) a regional health promotion not-for-profit charity focused on the prevention of chronic disease, creating healthy environments, and ensuring the health of our future.

Join a truly local not-for-profit community organisation with a 36-year track record in delivering accessible and inclusive programs, focusing on reaching under-served and marginalised populations; has a broad and comprehensive focus (not just heart disease or one type of cancer, for example); is wholistic – focusing on the social (and commercial) determinants of health and is a grounded leader in multi-sectoral and intersectoral collaboration.

Applicants will need to demonstrate a strong, genuine alignment with the HCI Vision, Purpose, and Values of Integrity, Equity, Collaboration and Inclusivity and be willing to dedicate time and energy to attending meetings, answering emails, and attending events as needed.

Responsibilities:

Actively participate in board meetings, providing valuable governance, insights, expertise, and strategic guidance. Collaborate with other board members to establish and review organizational goals, objectives, and policies. Contribute to the development and implementation of effective promotional and networking strategies to support the organisation’s mission, our programs and initiatives. Help monitor the financial health of the organization and ensure resources are allocated appropriately. Support the Board and CEO in evaluating and managing risks, while maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Act as an ambassador for HCI, representing our mission and values to stakeholders, donors, and the public. Attend and actively participate in (and out of) committee meetings, sharing your knowledge and expertise in areas relevant to your background. To help diversify the attribute and skill base of the Board, people of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Experience in advocacy, public speaking, networking, philanthropy, or donor engagement is highly desirable.

Note: This is a voluntary, unpaid position. Board members are expected to attend regular board meetings and commit to fulfilling their duties and responsibilities in a timely and professional manner.
