MMF Outreach Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Marine Mammal Foundation team as an Outreach Officer. This role will involve the coordination, development and delivery of MMF community engagement programs, including dedicated education workshops, public presentations and MMF attendance at community festivals and events. The successful applicant will be required to maintain and expand MMF’s outreach engagement programs, deliver program content, liaise with community and stakeholder groups, and work within the MMF Education Team. The successful applicant will also be required to identify and submit grant funding applications related to the development and delivery of MMF outreach activities. This is a volunteer position, with opportunity to expand into a renumerated part- or full-time position.

About the Role:

  • Volunteer (with capacity for financial remuneration pending grant applications)
  • Hybrid role: in-office, work-from-home, on-site program delivery
  • 15 hours per week (2x 7.5hr/day)
  • Not-for-profit research, education and conservation organisation
  • Coordination, management and delivery of community outreach engagement programs
  • Based in Mentone, Melbourne; travel thorughout Melbourne and to East Gippsland involved

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver MMF Outreach events and programs, including award winning Marine Litter Project;
  • Assist in coordinating and delivering MMF youth engagement program Marine Champions;
  • Manage outreach@marinemammal.org.au email address, responding to inquiries and seeking outreach events to participate;
  • Work alongside and collaborate with MMF Education MMF team, and MMF Research Team;
  • Manage and coordinate MMF volunteers in MMF Office and MMF Outreach events;
  • Maintain and build on established relationships with community and stakeholder groups;
  • Seek and organise MMF participation in community festivals, events and engagement opportunities;
  • Support the delivery of MMF education and outreach program content;
  • Identify, write and apply for grant funding, and fulfill grant funding deliverables;
  • Creation of advertising/philanthropic material;
  • Budget creation and management of program expenses.

Requirements:

  • Working with children’s check
  • First aid certificate
  • Experience driving with and towing a trailer
  • Interest in conservation/environment/marine mammals
  • Interest in not-for-profit sector
  • Interest in community engagement/education
  • Experience in education and program delivery
  • Experience/interest in working with children/young people
  • Willingness to volunteer beyond office hours when required (e.g. weekends, public holidays, extra weekdays, etc.)
  • Willingness to work in-office/attend in-office meetings when required
  • Creativity, good work ethic, teamworking skills, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), excellent organisational skills, excellent planning skills
  • Willingness to travel to program locations across Victoria
