Material Aid Volunteer

About the role

Material Aid is part of the Basic Needs Response Team, providing support for people seeking asylum to meet basic survival needs. Material Aid support can include myki, nappies, and a range of other material supports. The Material Aid Volunteer will assist with the sorting and distribution of material goods. Material Aid Volunteers have excellent customer service skills and practical problem solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the distribution of material aid to people seeking asylum.
  • Assessing eligibility and need for material aid items.
  • Providing advice and information relevant to material aid and basic survival needs.
  • Sorting and maintaining the storeroom.
  • Lifting and shelving stock.

What we’re looking for

  • Excellent customer services skills and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Passionate about working with people seeking asylum.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, assertively and with initiative.
  • Sound administrative, organisational and computer skills.
  • Willingness (and ability) to carry out a range of manual tasks including lifting and carrying.

Volunteer shifts

We are looking for a commitment of 1 shift per week, for 6 - 12 months. Shifts are available 10am - 4pm Monday - Friday.
