WHAT

Participants work with our volunteer mentors in a stable workshop environment to construct sailing dinghies, kayaks, and similar projects. Through this process they build confidence, consistency and develop the positive attitudes and skills needed for their journey through education, training, and employment.

The program aims to increase participants practical, life, personal, and inter-personal skills that sets them up for apprenticeships and employment after their involvement with the program.

The program develops core technical skills, essential work-ready attitudes and the self-confidence needed to succeed. Goals are set and progress is monitored with regular check-ins and end-of-term evaluations. Participants are coached and mentored as they undertake trade-based boat-building projects to gain workplace experience.

Currently operating in Sydney, Geelong and Newcastle, the program runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays across the school terms. We run sailing sessions on alternate Wednesdays in Sydney and alternate Thursdays in Geelong. The program will be expanding also expand to Brisbane in late 2025.

WHY:

Join a beautiful culture where we share knowledge and joy with young people with disabilities or disadvantages. Volunteers receive a uniform and can learn new skills through our training program.
