Youth Mentors | Darebin
Uniting (Victoria And Tasmania)
Seeking flexible, patient and reliable volunteers to mentor young people aged between 11 to 17, through engaging in negotiated recreational activities for a couple of hours per fortnight. Activities may include walking in the park, visiting the local library, attending festivals, playing sports, cooking or going for a drive together.
The program has been designed to enhance the young person’s community engagement and connectedness, social and emotional well-being, sound decision making skills and general self-worth through developing a relationship with a stable and positive adult role model.
Volunteer Mentors must be based in the local government areas of Whittlesea, Nillumbik, Banyule, Darebin, Yarra, Moreland and Hume.
Uniting support Mentors by providing the following:
- Induction and training.
- Regular supervision and reviews.
- Professional development sessions.
- Provision of event tickets e.g. movies, AFL games.
- Peer support sessions where mentors come together and share experiences.
Mentors spend a few hours a week with a young person for 3 months and then fortnightly thereafter for a minimum period of 12 months.
