Vinnies Connect is a non-profit friendship program based in Sydney. Vinnies staff recruit, screen, train and match volunteers in one-to-one friendships with adults who have applied to the program because they have become isolated. as a result of mental health challenges. One steady, reliable and caring friend can bring joy and hope into a person`s life and help to build confidence. Volunteers simply share their time and attention which helps in raising self esteem, increasing social and communication skills and encouraging independence in their Vinnies Connect friends. The rewards are many when you volunteer for Vinnies Connect. Volunteering in this program is fun and flexible enough to fit into your current lifestyle. The volunteer can establish and conduct the friendship by telephone or online platform or meet face to face. We ask volunteers to make a 12-month commitment to meet regularly (weekly or fortnightly) with their Vinnies Connect friend for at least 4 hours per month face to face (or 3 hours by telephone) at a time that it mutually agreed upon between the volunteer and their new friend. Vinnies Connect is a professionally run and highly supported volunteer program where the commitment of volunteers is recognised and appreciated. Training and ongoing support is provided. We currently have many people across the Sydney metro area waiting to be matched in a friendship with a volunteer.
