A Community garden volunteer is required to take care of an established community garden at Zillmere Community Centre. The community garden provides recreational and social outlet for our community. The volunteer gardener may be required to liase with other community garden workers, nurseries and groups. Planing skills and knowldege of working safely with tools and sprays is desirable. Skills required: Knowledge of gardening: seasonal plantings, pruning mulching, weed control, able to keep plants and fruit trees healthy and disease free. Knowledge of Working safely with sprays and tools. Able to work unsupervised and with others. Volunteer characteristics: Enjoy being outdoors, reliable, patient, likes weeding, pruning fertilising and seeing things grow. Creative, enjoys planning what plants to grow and when. Healthy and fit as there is some digging involved. Skills gained: Working with and supporting the community, and the centre. knowledge of running a community garden. Confidence, new social contacts. Satisfaction growing fruit and vegetables the community can use.
