About the Position

Are you a bit handy and like to fix things? This is your opportunity to offer your skills to help our maintenance staff perform general duties around our Residential Aged Care Facility in Manly. Through this volunteer role you will enhance the experience of clients and staff through assisting with minor repairs to property and equipment at the service.

Situated on a large landscaped site in the bayside Brisbane suburb of Manly, our fully accredited aged care service Edwin Marsden Tooth Memorial Home offers modern facilities in an idyllic seaside environment.

Along with a regular commitment, this volunteer position requires someone to: • Skills to make minor repairs to service equipment (eg Wheelchairs) as necessary • Ability to perform the manual and physical work involved with the tasks • Willingness to consult regarding any adjustments to equipment, gardens and surrounds • Ability to perform other general domestic maintenence duties when required (eg painting) • Willingness to abide by the Workplace Health & Safety requirements

Your open, caring and friendly manner will be backed up with: • Ability to develop rapport and interact positively with clients • An understanding and respect for privacy and physical disabilities • Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain professional boundaries • A flexible attitude and motivation to work with respect, care and courtesy

What We Need From You • Participation – in orientation, safe work practices and manual handling training • Availability – days and times are negotiable- during business hours, with a minimum of one scheduled shift per week • Consistency and reliability – willing to commit to on an ongoing basis for at least 6 months. • Confidentiality – this is critical to us and you will need to sign a Role Description that includes a confidentiality agreement. • Two (2) referees – who are not relatives and can vouch for your character and interaction in the community (ie. Work Colleague, Long Term Family Friend, Community Leader, Doctor or other Professional) • National Police Clearance – we organise and pay for this if you don’t already have one.
