Liverpool Volunteer Resource Centre

Please Note: All in-school programs are currently suspended due to the situation with COVID-19 in Australia. However, we are still taking expressions of interest from people who would like to be kept in the loop about this volunteering role because as soon as this pandemic is over and school resumes as per usual, we will need to have Volunteers who are ready to proceed as soon as possible. So, if you would like to know more about this program, please continue to read on below and express your interest by hitting the 'Apply' button at the bottom of the page.

Volunteers are needed to provide support to Primary School students through an in-school Literacy/Numeracy Program.

This program provides additional support for students whose literacy and/or numeracy skills are at a level considerably lower than their peers, and are at risk of being left behind.

The Literacy Program is a research initiative of Macquarie University and has been proven to improve reading accuracy, fluency, comprehension and spelling for struggling readers. The goal of the Numeracy Program is to enhance the numeracy skills of participating children, as well as to encourage them to feel good about themselves as learners and hence provide them with the mathematical skills needed to have the best chance of success in their later years.

Volunteers are needed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, between 9.20am and 11am and Wednesday afternoons between 12 noon and 2.30pm, for each week of the school term. Training and orientation are provided for all Volunteers, as are all resources. You would be Volunteering with students one to one, alongside other Volunteers and with ongoing support from the Program Coordinator.

You would need a Working With Children clearance before commencement of role and to be punctual and reliable. A high level of communication and capacity to engage and motivate students is imperative for this role. No previous experience is necessary, although patience and an interest in literacy, numeracy and education are a must.

If you are passionate about supporting children’s learning and development, then we would love to hear from you!

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
