Summary of program and its objectives

The Banksia Centre in Frankston offers a range of activities in a supportive and dementia-friendly environment. Members are encouraged to pursue past interests such as gardening or other outdoor hobbies. Art and music therapy, indoor bowls and board games are also on offer.

Community involvement is emphasised to promote wellbeing and social connections. Carers can also put their mind at ease and take a break while the Banksia Centre care for their loved ones.

Share your love of music with our residents who are living with dementia by bringing your own instrument or lead a sing-along. We'd welcome a range of musical styles and it can be an opportunity for the residents to sing along with you.

Volunteer musicians contribute to a therapeutic and comforting environment.

To meet the selection criteria, the candidate will require

  • Ability to play a musical instrument
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Reliability and empathy
  • A genuine commitment and interest in working with older people
  • Ability to work well with others and take instruction
  • High level of patience, compassion and an understanding of issues affecting older people
  • Understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.
