The Position

We seek the services of a talented, professional writer with a passion for animals, a creative eye and commitment to detail in delivering content for our newsletter, Forest Chatter. We produce 4 newsletter editions annually for our membership subscriber base and supporters. This is a unique opportunity for you to give back by communicating the wonderful work of this organisation to a broad national audience.

The role is relatively autonomous (can be located Australia wide) but involves direct online communication with the President, administrative staff and graphic designer. As Editor you will provide provides the initial strategic direction, gather appropriate content including photos and artwork, coordinate the draft process through to the final proof. The final say is from our President who has a passion for orangutans unlike any other.

We operate collaboratively as part of a small, dedicated team of passionate people from across Australia and internationally who are committed to saving and releasing orangutans. All design work and communications will be delivered online utilising email and online portals such as Dropbox.

Critical functions Flexibility is paramount as the Foundation operates with competing priorities in line with critical orangutan releases and publicity opportunities. We appreciate you may work full-time, have family, external interests and commitments. What we ask is for you to deliver to the agreed schedule that we provide.

Your volunteer commitment: Work with the BOSA President to determine content for quarterly newsletters and update calendar for newsletter work flow Collect and edit articles for newsletter; and write articles as needed. Design newsletter layout in collaboration with the graphic designer Meet print deadlines Approximately 10 hours per issue

You are: Collaborative, reliable and flexible. Capable of working effectively both autonomously and with the input of others Comfortable with direction and in meeting deadlines. Comfortable communicating and delivering work online. Creative and passionate about writing and design.

Technical skills: Highly skilled writing ability with excellent command of English writing, spelling and punctuation Previous experience in a professional writing field such as copywriting, marketing or communications will be well-regarded Access to a computer and applicable software is essential Sound knowledge of desk-top publishing skills. Professional knowledge using Adobe Creative Suite specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro and Illustrator skills will be well regarded
