Parent Peer Volunteer providing telephone support and/or group facilitation to other parents
Parent and Family Drug SupportParent and Family Drug Support seeks PARENTS with a LIVED EXPERIENCE of supporting a child (of any age) who has experienced difficulties with alcohol and or other drug use (past or present). The role of the PARENT PEER VOLUNTEER is to provide peer support to parents calling the service in distress about their child's drug or alcohol use. These parents have expressed a desire to speak to other parents who have been affected by these issues and who can provide support, listening and empathy. It is vital that Parent Peer Volunteers have lived experience of being a parent or guardian of a child who has had difficulties with alcohol or drug use and expressions of interest can only be taken for those who meet this strict criteria. Parent Peer Volunteers provide one shift per week on the telephone roster providing telephone support to parent callers from the comfort of their own home. Other opportunities may include providing face to face support in Perth’s Drug Court and facilitating support groups. Full training will be provided.
Due to the large volume of interest we receive, we may not be able to respond to your expression of interest if you do not specify you have the required lived experience. We are currently looking for volunteers who can provide one 5 hr shift per week during office hours.
