The Top Gear program is aimed at assisting people who do not have access to a driving supervisor or car to help them gain the required hours of practice, skills and confidence before sitting their Provisional licence test. Obtaining a drivers licence is an important part of settlement as it impacts on employment, education and other life chances. Volunteers have access to a dual-controlled MRC car with insurance and fuel costs covered by MRC. Mentors can choose between using the Hobart or Glenorchy based vehicles.
