Female Community Visitor Needed - Wynnum area

Wynnum Baptist Community Visitors Scheme t/as ACVVS Wynnum

We are looking for a kind and caring lady who has a genuine interest in older people to become community visitor to a lady in her late 90's residing in an aged care home in Wynnum, Queensland.

Our resident is originally from England and used to be a teacher. She has no family living in Australia. We are looking for someone who can visit on a weekly or fortnightly basis to have a chat with our resident (suggested topics include: England, trivia and books) or to play a game of scrabble together.

Regular visits from a community visitor can help to improve the quality of life of the older person and help them to feel less socially isolated.

  • An important note - A requirement issued by the Federal Government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is that ALL visitors to aged care facilities in Australia must have a current Flu Vaccination with evidence to be provided to aged care facility upon each visit.

Volunteering as a community visitor can be a very rewarding experience. By becoming a friend to an older person, you can make a positive difference to their lives as well as your own.

Volunteer characteristics: Patience, flexibility, empathy, respect for the elderly, consideration of ageing conditions and awareness of loss of mobility/ memory/ sight/ hearing or health. An ongoing commitment required to fortnightly visits. Must be 18 years or older.

From time to time aged care facilities can go into lockdown and during that time visits will take place via digital calls (such as Skype or FaceTime) and/or through letter writing/ emailing and phone calls.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
