Treasurer

The Treasurer’s role is to keep track of the money coming in and out of the BREAZE accounts. To ensure good governance all BREAZE payments need to be authorised by two Board members. To make the Treasurer's role easier, BREAZE moved to direct debit for all payments and receipts of money.  BREAZE also uses the Reckon One cloud-based accounting system so that every transaction, i.e. money in and out, is recorded. This cloud-based system is very easy to use and can automatically produce the monthly reports required by the Board. BREAZE’s accountant and auditor also have access to the cloud-based records for BAS reporting and audit review. Being a Treasurer of a not-for-profit organisation is not at all difficult, the key skills you need are, willingness to keep on top of the payments and computer literacy. If you can use an MS Excel spreadsheet you will be able to do the accounts.

Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions (BREAZE) Inc was formed in December 2006 by a group of concerned citizens keen for a community action on climate change, with a mission to: “Protect and enhance the natural environment and increase environmental sustainability within the region by promoting and developing renewable sources of energy and significantly reducing the region’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions”. BREAZE initially arranged bulk purchase and installations of solar hot water and rooftop solar panels for its members—before commercial suppliers were established in Ballarat. Today BREAZE Inc., a registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient status, pursues its mission in three ways:  through community education on living sustainably; through advocacy across all levels of government; and through BREAZE Social Solar—fund raising for rooftop solar for social housing.  BREAZE has quickly grown in membership and reputation as a trusted and authoritative voice for the Ballarat community on all climate change issues. In 2018 BREAZE Inc. was invited to host the State government's Community Power Hub in Ballarat. In 2020 BREAZE was granted State government stimulus funding to administer and implement many of the community projects identified by the Community Power Hub.  The role of the Treasurer is thus an important one in the organisation and promises considerable satisfaction for the right candidate—involvement in work that is directly reducing GHG emissions and contributing social justice—and collaborating with a community of volunteers dedicated to these causes.
