Volunteer Tutor for an after school Homework Club

Djerriwarrh Community & Education Services (Learning for Employment)

Position Objective:

To provide after school educational support for primary and secondary aged students from South Sudanese backgrounds in English, Math and Science.

About you:

  • No teaching or tutoring experience required
  • Positive attitude and patience to work with young people
  • Ability to help students in subjects like Math, English and Science
  • Commit to 2 hours per week or fortnight (Thursday afternoons from 3:30pm – 5:50pm)
  • Have a current Working with Children’s Check and Police Check (we can assist with these if you do not have them)

Terms of Voluntary Engagement:

This is an unpaid voluntary position. A commitment for 2 hours per week or fortnight on a Thursday afternoon is required. The volunteer needs to fulfill the following requirements:

  • Participate in an interview
  • Provide a National Police Check and Working with Children’s Check (We can assist with these)

Duties: As a volunteer tutor you will report to the Homework Club Project Officer. Your duties will include:

  • Provide educational support to the Homework Club students
  • Setting up room and tidying up before and after
  • Listening to students and being available to assist them as required

Essential Skills and Qualities:

  • Proficiency in English language, both written and spoken
  • Be reliable and punctual
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be flexible and show initiative
  • Be cooperative and supportive of students and other volunteer tutors
