Footsteps Program – Training & Fitness Coach (Melbourne)

About On My Feet

On My Feet transforms lives.

On My Feet is a distinctly Australian organisation which uses education and exercise to walk homeless people away from the rough streets.

To achieve this, On My Feet offers three core programs throughout Australia: • Walking Groups; which feed in to • Exercise Groups; which feed in to • Our flagship 6 Month “Shelter to Self Sufficiency” Footsteps Program.

We aren’t creating champion athletes; we provide the support for homeless people to discover their inner champion by building self-respect, a sense of purpose and ultimately self-sufficiency through walking, running, education and employment.

About the Footsteps Program

The On My Feet Footsteps Program is an Australian-leading six-month course that aims to transition chosen participants who are experiencing homelessness from Shelter to Self-Sufficiency through education, self-development and running.

After a successful pilot in 2019 in Perth, the Footsteps Program is set to continue to create self-sufficiency for vulnerable Australian’s in 2020 by launching in Melbourne CBD.

Our 2020 Melbourne Footsteps Program will be focused on youth (aged 18-25) experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Our key outcomes focusses for this year are for each participant to be:

  1. Employed and Job Ready Providing each participant with the skills, training and work placements to re-enter the workforce effectively and maintain employment long term.

  2. Independent Living Ready Providing each participant with the skills, training and opportunities to manage living independently and working full or part time.

  3. Physically & Mentally Healthier Providing each participant with the skills, training and opportunities to become physically and mentally healthier and active.

About the Role

We are looking to bring on up to 2 x Lead Training & Fitness Coaches and up to 3 x Support Training & Fitness Coaches to join our Melbourne volunteer team for the 2020 Footsteps Program.

The successful candidates for the Lead Coaching roles will be required to:

  1. Plan and design a training & fitness program

Plan and design an engaging 6 month physical training program which improves a group of 5-10 participants of mixed fitness abilities in the following key areas: o Running distance o Running speed o Weight/fat loss o Strength & conditioning o Overall fitness

Participants will ultimately be training to compete in either the 10km, Half Marathon or Full Marathon at the Melbourne Running Festival in October 2020.

The training program will need to be executed through two mandatory group training sessions per week whilst including the following:

o Periodic additional training sessions o Individual training sessions for participants to complete in their own time o Cross training and varied training opportunities o Plotted running events to highlight distance milestones.

The mandatory group training sessions can be scheduled around the successful candidate/s, however it is expected that the sessions will be held in the evening during the week in the Melbourne CBD for 45-75 minutes. It is expected that the majority of the 2020 participants will be based near the Melbourne CBD and/or access to reliable public transport options.

  1. Coordinate and implement training & fitness program

The coaches will coordinate the approved training program through the abovementioned training sessions. The coaches will need to lead the majority of the weekly mandatory and optional sessions, with the assistance of other OMF running volunteers.

The ideal candidates will be able to leverage contacts in other areas of fitness to help execute different training opportunities to keep training enjoyable and challenging as well as to educate participants on nutrition, preparation and recovery focusses.

Where possible, the coaches will make themselves available to assist participants on select race event days.

On My Feet is a 100 per cent volunteer run organisation. We do not have a registered office in Melbourne so all volunteer work can be completed at home or at an agreed location amongst the team.
