A core value of The Salvation Army ("TSA") is to support the basic needs of individuals experiencing disadvantage and communities in times of disaster.  The Doorways Garden Project Team Leader role provides support to ensure the property is safe and enjoyable for all community members, staff, volunteers and Officers.  The role helps to: maintain, develop and revive gardens; ensure that they are well presented; and the garden and its surroundings are maintained in a safe, tidy and aesthetically pleasing environment. You will draw upon your proven people and leadership skills to be the contact point for all team members and will act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration. The Team Leader will organise the care, maintenance and harvesting of vegetable, fruit and herb crops and organise the supply of seeds and seedings - all of which benefits the Doorways program at Clarence City Corps and the community it supports.

Attention and adherence to the appropriate protocols and policies is an important part of the role.  Safety and well-being of self and others is vital and there is a requirement to identify and report hazards and incidents when they occur.

Key Activities - Leading a team to;

• Weeding, mulching, planting, replanting, digging, potting and re-potting of plants and seedlings, harvesting of fruits and vegetables.
• Mowing of lawns, pruning of hedges, clipping of plants
• Watering of lawns and garden beds
• Appropriate use of Personal Protection Equipment at all times
• Monitor and address any health and safety concerns within the premises

Experience Requirements for the Role

• Previous experience working in lawns and gardens preferred.
• Previous experience leading teams/motivating people
• Experience using a ride-on-mower and other gardening appliances is highly desired.
• A reasonable level of fitness to meet the inherent requirements of the role.

Mandatory Requirements of the Role

• Fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process.
• Current Criminal History Check (Police check) and other integrity checks may be required.
• Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) required.
• Complete TSA induction modules and any other training as required.
