Environmental Education Support

Brisbane City Council Environment Centres

Volunteers work directly with Environment Centre Education Officers to inspire Students and teachers to take positive action towards protecting Brisbane’s nature reserves. This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity, where you will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet like-minded people
  • Work alongside a highly motivated team of volunteers and staff
  • Gain valuable community engagement experience
  •  Support a program that aims to deepen students' understanding of the environment, and facilitate behaviour change

Goals and duties

  • To assist in the running of School Learning Programs, including the award winning Bush neighbors program
  • Assist the Schools Team Education Officers with set up, pack down,
  • Assist during or participate in activities as requested by the activity leader and as approved by the Council School services team. e.g. water quality testing, dip netting and guided walks
  • To meet staff at reserve and school locations to provide support needed to run the Bush Neighbours’ activity.
  • Bring the Environment Centre mascots to life, by wearing the famous /Sid, Ellie or

• To run errands, facilitate communication with contractors, and supporting with lunch Events.

The ideal applicants will be people who:

  • Availability: School activities can be held on Monday – Friday during the school term. Times and dates are negotiated between the EC school team and the school teachers.

Where: Various locations, including: schools, nature reserves throughout Brisbane. Roster: Flexible and as per availability on the volunteer “events” roster.

  • Enjoy working with school aged children
  • Have a positive can-do attitude
  • Have the confidence to work with a range of people on various school activities and programs
  • Ability to work as part of a team alongside highly motivated staff and volunteers
  • Reliable

Upon acceptance of your written application, you will be invited for an interview with the Volunteer Coordinator. The Environment Centres will  process your BlueCard and provide all relevant training.
