We are seeking a chess player who would like to battle it out with a like minded opponent on a regular basis. Playing chess is beneficial for cognitive function, reduces anxiety and depression and promotes a sense of well being and connectedness.

The Chess Player - Volunteer can assist a resident by:

• Assisting to set up the game in an environment chosen by the resident.
• Encouraging independence, friendship and fun.
• Being spontaneous and sharing life experiences.
• Providing companionship and a sense of belonging.
• Communicating resident feedback to staff.
• Enjoying a great game of chess!

This volunteering role is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm and empathetic manner. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our senior residents while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.

The volunteering time for this role is currently Monday morning between the hours of 10am and 12 noon. (flexible)
