The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Ashburton Community Centre.

The Ashburton Community Centre runs a range of activities, classes and courses for the local community. Our office is open Monday – Friday 9am – 2:30pm but activities run every day between 9am – 10pm.
The Centre hosts almost 20 Connect Groups, which are groups run by Connect Group Coordinators who are volunteers. These groups are social groups in which members meet to share common interests. Some of the groups that are currently running include book clubs, walking groups, bands, cryptic crosswords, film group, table tennis group, knitting groups and art and craft-based groups. We would love to increase our range of connect groups and are seeking Connect Group Coordinators to run these groups with support from the Centre office team. The Centre office team will provide the space and all the promotional material and manage getting people involved in the group. The Connect Group Coordinator runs the group, establishes any group norms (when appropriate) and supports everyone enjoying themselves. Connect groups can run at any frequency, some run weekly, some fortnightly, some monthly. It depends on your availability.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the office team, when required about the group
  • Welcome new participants to the group
  • Manage a WhatsApp chat group (full training provided) for the Connect Group
  • Support participants to participate within the group
  • Take the small attendance fee at the beginning of the group
  • Enjoy yourself !
  • Notify the Office team and your group when you are not able to be present and where possible arrange for a substitute coordinator for that time.

  • Enjoyment / passion for a particular interest
  • Inclusive and friendly
  • Able to be available on a long-term basis if possible
