On Australia Day we come together as a nation to reflect and acknowledge our past, celebrate the present and look confidently to the future.

The Australia Day In The City celebration is held each year and consists of 4 major components - Australia Day Parade, 21 Gun Salute, free Concert and a Fireworks finale.

The Australia Day Parade is a dynamic and colourful celebration of the incredible cultural and community diversity within South Australia. There is music, dancing, national dress and cultural & community demonstrations.

In 2019 the Australia Day Parade included over 4,000 participants and more than 15,000 spectators. To help manage the Parade we require lots of Parade Marshals. These positions are suitable for groups of friends, corporate volunteers or people just wanting to have some fun while helping to manage the largest Australia Day celebration in the state.

Marshals are generally divided into 2 major functions:

Parade Marshals - responsible for the positioning of groups in the Parade, assisting with minor setting up of Parade floats, OHSW of participants, some Crowd Control and the safe and orderly flow of the Parade along the Parade route; or

Crowd Control Marshals - responsible for controlling the 15,000 spectators lining the Parade route, the safety of spectators and Parade participants and the orderly flow of the Parade along the Parade route.

Volunteers will receive free Marshal training (recognised throughout SA), OHSW and Diversity training, Team Leader skills and an official polo shirt and hat. Refreshments are also available at the end of the Parade.

After the Parade, Volunteers are most welcome to remain at Elder Park to enjoy the concert and fireworks.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
