Virtual Companion Support - any language

The Community Visitors Scheme is a project that brings together volunteers and elder people since more than 30 years. The Visitors visit the elder in their residential facility or at home to bring friendship and companionship and build a sincere and joyful partnership.

In these times of COVID-19, most of the residential facilities had to lock down to preserve the health of their residents, but the risk of loneliness and isolation is severe. The need of a external contact is even more important now than ever, especially for those people of a non-English background and speaking a language other than English.

The Community Visitors must adapt and be more active than never to alleviate loneliness of the Non-English speaking elders locked down in residential facilities without the comfort of any visit. If you speak any additional language other than English, and you are willing to make a new friend of the same background, an elder man or woman keen to communicate in his/her mother tongue, contact us. While this lock down persists, you can alleviate and make someone happier through a phone call, a video call, or a letter, a card or email.

You will be trained and supported in understanding the needs of your new friend. Sharing your time and interests with them will help them feel better about themselves, feel more involved in their community and enjoy their life more. Most community visitors find that they enjoy the friendship as much as the person they visit, and that the relationship is both positive and rewarding.

If you would like to enrich the quality of someone else’s life, we would love to hear from you. For many people it will be a great joy to speak to someone in their own language!

To the world you may only be one person. But to one person you might be the world.
