About us

Suited to Success Ltd (STS) is a not-for-profit community organisation helping people overcome barriers to employment.

Our programs are delivered by a small, dedicated team of qualified staff and trained volunteers including counselors, social and human services professionals and human resource specialists.  We provide programs and services from our premises in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane including the Dress for Success® Brisbane suiting service for women and our Steps to Work employability skills program.

STS has a working Board with up to 8 directors and a Company Secretary/Public Officer.  With less than 5 FTE staff, directors have responsibility for a specific operational area working closely with management until responsibilities are transferred to a funded operational position.

The position

This role involves supporting and advising the CEO and board on fiscal matters and providing oversight of the financial management of the organisation including reporting, developing the annual budget and annual review of financial policies and procedures.  You will be responsible for assessing the financial performance of the company as well as possible risks and investments, retaining constant awareness of the company’s financial position and acting to prevent problems.

It is expected that the Director, Finance will also be involved in board Committees responsible for Risk Management and Governance and cultivate a network of professionals and resources to support our financial management capability.  At the operational level, the Director Finance provides key support to executive management on all financial matters and it is expected that 15-20 hours may be required in some months of high activity to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

While STS has no paid financial staff, we have a long-term volunteer bookkeeper (5 hours per week) and a volunteer assistant accountant (15 hours per month).  Our accounts are set up in MYOB on-line.

Responsibilities

In addition to the duties of a director, this position has responsibility for the Finance Portfolio which includes the following responsibilities:

  1. Support and advise the CEO and  board on fiscal matters providing oversight of the financial management of  the organisation
  2. Ensure the  board understands its financial obligations

3. Drive financial planning by analysing performance and risks\, maintaining constant awareness of the company’s financial position and acting to prevent problems 4. Ensure timely and detailed monthly financial reporting with analysis of performance\, commentary and up-to-date forecasts 5. Provide support for the development of annual budgets and end-of-year financial statements for STS and Dress for Success Brisbane (DFSB) 6.  Support the relationship with STS bankers and ensure the use of accounts that provide best investment returns on reserves 7. Support the relationship with STS auditors to ensure accounts are audited annually and available for distribution 8. Cultivate a network of financial professional volunteers to whom responsibilities can be delegated and to provide back-up and succession for this position 9.  Annually review and update financial policies in the Governance Manual (Section 4.3), amending and developing new policies as appropriate 10. Ensure appropriate operational financial management systems and procedures are in place and managed appropriately\, assuring adherence to financial laws and guidelines and compliance with state and national financial legislation and reporting requirements

What you will bring

  • At least 5 years’ senior financial management experience in a business with an annual turnover of at least $500k preferably in the not-for-profit area
  • A registered CPA or equivalent with a tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, business or related field
  • In depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws and best practice with solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting
