The Royal Society for the Blind is a not-for-profit organisation and has a rich history of providing outstanding quality care and services to Australians who have a severe vision impairment. These services are delivered by a professional, committed and highly qualified team supported by volunteers, drawn from all age groups and walks of life.

Volunteer Transport Drivers will be responsible for driving their own roadworthy vehicle or one of RSB’s fleet vehicles from Noarlunga Downs, Smithfield or Gilles Plains to transport clients from their private residence to Medical Appointments, Social Group activities and events.

Role responsibilities:

• Plan appropriate road routes to sites
• As directed, pick up/drop off clients for appointments
• Refuel the RSB fleet vehicle to ensure that the vehicle has at least ¼ of a tank of fuel at the time of drop off
• Remove any rubbish etc. from the fleet vehicle to ensure it is clean and tidy
• Complete vehicle check paperwork and report any mechanical/maintenance issues to supervisor
• Adhere to RSB’s Guidelines and Policies & Procedures
• Adhere to South Australian Road Safety regulations
• Maintain and help to promote a good image of The Royal Society for the Blind

Skills and experience:

• A full clear Class C Driver’s Licence

• At least 5 years driving experience

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well to people of different ages from various cultural backgrounds

• Responsible and reliable in attendance

• Willingness to uphold the values of The Royal Society for the Blind

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• DHS Screening Checks – Aged Care, Disability & Child-Related

• National Criminal History Check

• Attend RSB Volunteer Induction & Human Guide Training

• Complete RAA Fleet Driver Safety Workshop

• Attend any other relevant training courses as identified and agreed with the RSB

• All checks and training will be at no cost to the volunteer
