Food Services Assistant - Dandenong Salvos AOD

Dandenong Salvos is in need of several friendly and capable Food Services Assistants to assist with the preparation and service of the midday meal three days week, supporting clients in the AOD Therapeutic Recovery program. This volunteer role would be perfect for someone wanting to support others and make a difference in their community.
A core value of the Salvation Army is to support the basic needs of individuals and communities. The Foster Street Hospitality Team role is to provide support in the preparation of the midday meal and all associated serving and cleaning responsibilities. Attention to maintaining a clean, safe, hygienic and healthy work environment is critical.
A typical day will involve preparation for, service to clients and clean up at the end of the day's program. Generally duties will include;
- Order lunches and prepared foods.
- Collect lunches and prepare for distribution
- Prepare servery and dining area eg provide place settings
- Ensure hot and cold beverages are available
- Serve participants’ and volunteers’ beverages and food as requested
- Benches and sink area and clean and wiped down.
- Collect and wash dishes – dishwasher available
- Make sure fridge is clean and wiped in and out.
- Dispose of left over foods. Empty kitchen bins. Put the rubbish out into bin outside, wash both recycle and rubbish bin and ensure it is dry before putting the new bin liner in.
- Sweep the floor and mop with correct floor cleaner and mop.
Qualifications and experience requirements for the Role
- Experience in customer service desirable
- Good understanding of hygiene is essential.
- Experience in preparing food and condiments desirable
Mandatory requirements of the Role
- Complete TSA’s Volunteer Registration form and sign TSA’s Volunteer Agreement form
- Complete TSA induction modules and any other training as required
- Knowledge of work health and safety particularly in a commercial kitchen environment
Roster & time commitment
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 11am-1:30pm 3 positions available
