Event and Community Engagement Internship

The Event and Community Engagement Intern will work closely with the Tenancy team, Programming team, Marketing team and tenant community to assist with planning and delivery of the tenant community program as part of the precinct wide event Open Spaces on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November 2019.

In this role you will gain experience in event coordination, community engagement, working with artists and other tenants, marketing, and general administration.

The Abbotsford Convent Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for individuals to be involved in the development and execution of a community engaged contemporary arts program. The internship is designed to offer in-depth training and first-hand experience to those interested in pursuing a role in the fields of programming, events, arts administration or community engagement. The position is ideal for a recent graduate, or Masters level student, with interests in non-profit arts organisations and an existing engagement with art.

Key responsibilities and duties

  • Work with the tenant community to develop the community program including open studios,events, tours and workshops
  • Liaise with marketing to promote program and increase foot traffic through the open studios
  • Assist with collecting artist information for Marketing and Communications team
  • Encourage tenant community involvement in program
  • Encourage tenants to work collaboratively and collectively
  • Coordinate event production and logistics for tenants including on the day support andfurniture required
  • Assist with the development and promotion of the Convent Made Brand
  • Facilitate a process to receive post event feedback and visitation numbers from tenants
  • Provide administrative and project delivery support for the program
  • Assist with maintaining documents and information for participating tenants
  • General support for the events

Skills, Attributes & Experience

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to operate independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality
  • Willingness to develop a good knowledge of the Convent, its culture, history, events andprograms
  • Openness and flexibility to respond to the changing nature of the role, and willingness to learn
  • Capacity to offer 1 day per week from 9 September to 8 November and available for the event
